PHOENIX

This is actually a paint over of a sketch that was languishing in my "to do" folder. I think my original intention was a cyber mecha queen(sort of) that wasn't going anywhere. I started just throwing shapes and lines on top. As I was playing with layers, this bird like shape sort of appeared. It ended up with an abstract quality that is different from what I usually do. More experiments!

ghost tree

whoa...bit of a break there. The last few months have been filled with fun new projects and great experiences, but it hasn't left me much free time. For this one I wanted to play with textures, trying to keep it loose.

The reclusive genius

Contrary to popular opinion, the beautiful creatures we know as Unicorns are actually manufactured....in a futuristic factory.....and they can time travel.

creeeeeepy...

I'm workin on some possible splash pages/covers for the CRUNCH comic. I don't wanna give too much away in terms of what this image represents, but I will say I was trying to capture a creepy/scary element. Not sure if I'm gonna use it(for a few reasons), but it was a good exercise. More to come!

Return of the fleet

I think parts of this pic work okay, some not so much. I wanted the foreground element to be very dark and a bit more graphic (supposed to be black rock in DEEP, dare I say otherworldy shadow)...HOWEVER..I'm not sure it's workin. Looks a bit like the foreground is at night, the BG late afternoon. Thoughts, ideas, take out orders.....

Completion of Bot-27: World domination imminent

I'm trying to loosen up, so I figure doing some quick studies might help. It's about 5 by 7 inches. Pretty small considering some of the pieces I've done were 12"x18". Ah well, Who knows!

ghostfish...

Usually I'll pick at a piece for a while over the course of a week or so. The last few have been bigger, and for this one I wanted to sit down and just go with a rough idea.8 1/2 by 11. No real planning except a thumbnail I sketched. About 2-3 hours I guess.

My friend Andrew King!

A good friend of mine decided to abandon his day job and pursue a career painting full time. He has been doing it for more than a year now, making a living painting what he wants to paint and has never seemed happier. He has worked in the animation industry, and been an art director for live action features. Also, just about one of the most interesting people I've ever met. Check out his stuff:

Raspy colored..

Wow, this is quickly becoming the post that didn't want to happen. I lost the original digital paint file of this image and then decided to do a simpler "cel" paint style. I did it on a pc and tranferred it to my mac. The difference in saturation was crazy. Both monitors are supposedly calibrated... I tried to fix it to get close to what I had done, but I wonder how it will be viewed on different monitors. huh..
